Challenge
The multi-rink sports complex was challenged with replacing their 35-year-old R22 system with a natural-refrigerant solution that would increase energy savings, decrease maintenance costs, and reduce space usage – all while significantly cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

Solution
MMC replaced the old R22 refrigeration system with a Transcritical CO2 system with brine for existing installations and direct CO2 for heating and dehumidifying the ice rinks. The solution included the implementation of a heat recovery network for the Sport Center’s swimming pools, library, gym, and domestic hot water heating.
